Teen Dating Apps: Age Limits, the Law, and What to Do
Every mainstream dating platform sets a minimum age of 18, and adult casual dating platforms are not lawful for minors to use. This page covers the age rules, how weakly they are enforced, and what to do if a minor has an account.
The rule, and why it is not just a policy
Dating platforms set 18 as the floor in their terms of service. On adult casual platforms this is not merely a contractual term: an adult contacting a minor for sexual purposes is a criminal offence in every jurisdiction we are aware of, and the platform's terms are the least important part of that.
This site does not review or recommend platforms for under-18s, and we do not link to any platform in that context.
Age checks are usually a date field
The standard mechanism is a self-declared date of birth at signup with no verification behind it. A minor can pass it by typing a different year. Some platforms in some countries now run document or estimation-based age assurance, driven by regulation rather than by choice, but self-declaration remains the norm.
Treat any claim that a platform is safe because it verifies age as needing evidence. Ask what the check actually is.
If you are under 18
Adult casual dating platforms are not for you, and the risk is not evenly distributed: the people who seek out minors on them are the reason the rule exists. If an adult you met online is pressuring you toward images or meeting, tell someone you trust and report it to the platform and to the police. Nothing you have already sent makes it too late to do that.
If you are a parent who has found an account
Delete the account rather than only the app, since the profile persists after uninstalling. Check whether a subscription is attached, because those bill through the app store and continue after account deletion. Preserve any messages before deleting if there is any suggestion an adult made contact, since those are evidence.
Report the account to the platform. Adult platforms remove under-18 accounts on report, and a report also flags the adults who contacted it.
What this URL used to be
This address previously hosted a roundup of casual dating apps framed for a teenage audience. We have not restored that page and will not. The URL now covers age limits and safety, which is the responsible answer to the same search.
