Guides

Practical guides for choosing a dating platform and using one without being taken for a ride. Every page states what we verified and what we did not.

Before you pay for anything

Three tests answer more than any review, including ours. Each takes under an hour on a free account and none requires a card.

Response rate: send ten first messages from a completed profile and count replies inside 48 hours. Empty profile: register with no photo and no bio, wait an hour, count what arrives unprompted. Block test: block one account and check whether it disappears from search entirely or merely stops messaging you.

Choosing by category

Most demographic-targeted platforms turn out to be a general pool with a preset filter rather than a separate community. The one-minute check is to flip your stated preference on a free account: on a dedicated platform the results collapse, on a filtered general platform they stay full.

Neither answer is disqualifying. Paying for a preset without knowing that is what you are buying is the thing worth avoiding.

Understanding what you are charged

Read the pricing page before the feature page, because the billing model predicts your experience better than any feature list. A subscription sells time and wants you to keep using it. A credit model sells actions and profits when conversations do not conclude. An ad-funded app sells attention regardless of outcome.

Then establish where you are paying. A subscription bought inside an iOS or Android app is billed by Apple or Google, not by the platform, and it is cancelled in the store rather than in the app. That single confusion causes most of the complaints about dating sites that kept charging.

Staying safe

The safety material sits in its own section: spotting fake profiles, how the common scams are structured, and account and device privacy. The shortest version is that reverse image search and a video call before meeting between them defeat most misrepresentation, and staying on the platform until you meet defeats most fraud.

What we have verified so far

Sixteen platforms tracked with status checked, two operators confirmed, four closures or rebrands recorded. Pricing and account deletion are unchecked across the board and our comparison table shows those cells empty rather than filled with the platforms' own claims.
